The CD of Bach Matthäus-Passion recorded in April 2019 with Gli Angeli has been released by Claves in April 2020.
CD O schöne Nacht receives a prestigious award: CHOC de Classica
In November 2018, Damask Vocal Quartet (Katharine Dain, soprano, Marine Fribourg, mezzo, Guy Cutting, tenor & Drew Santini, baritone) have released their first album on 7 Mountain Records with pianist Flore Merlin: O schöne Nacht, a recording of German romantic quartets with piano by Brahms and contemporaries. Learn more about the recording and order your copy here.
The album has been receiving glowing press coverage, including a CHOC from French magazine Classica.
“Praise to Damask, who with the French pianist Flore Merlin have ensured a perfectly executed, imaginative recital, recorded flawlessly by Frerik de Jong, which certainly leaves us wanting (much) more."
About me
Marine Fribourg is a French mezzo-soprano and choral conductor.
Her engagements as a concert soloist have included appearances with Gli Angeli Genève / S. MacLeod (Messiah, Matthew Passion, Bach cantatas), the Netherlands Bach Society / J. van Veldhoven (Johannes Passion, recorded for AllofBach, a 17th century Italian monody program), Nieuwe Philharmonie Utrecht / J. Leertouwer (solo alto cantatas by Bach, Vivaldi & Zelenka), Le Concert Etranger/ I. Jedlin (Matthew Passion at the Festival d’Ambronay and a reconstruction of Marcus Passion), BachPlus / B. Naessens (Bach cantatas), l’Orchestre d’Auvergne / R. Fores Veses (Bach cantatas at Festival Bach en Combrailles).
Her plans for the coming seasons include Matthew Passion with the Netherlands Bach Society, conducted by L. García Alarcón.
She regularly performs in soloists ensembles such as Collegium Vocale Gent / P. Herreweghe (madrigals), Tasto Solo / G. Perez (medieval music), Faenza / M. Horvat (baroque music).
Chamber music is a particular passion. In duet with the pianist and fortepianist Flore Merlin, she explores the Lied & song repertoire on period instrument.
She is a founding member of the Damask Vocal Quartet, together with Katharine Dain (soprano), Guy Cutting (tenor) and Drew Santini (baritone). Their first CD, O schöne Nacht, featuring German romantic quartets with piano, has been released in 2018.
Herself a gambist, Marine sometimes accompanies herself while singing, in the appropriate repertoire (with Ensemble Faenza, and with gambist Thomas Baeté).
Recent opera appearances include Angelina in Cenerentola by Rossini (under guidance of Teresa Berganza), the Alto in Kopernikus by Claude Vivier with the Dutch National Opera’s Talent Development Programme, Cherubini Médée (cover Néris) with Opera2Day, Sarah in Sarah’s Passion (Pärt) with Silbersee, Charpentier La Troupe d’Orphée with the ensemble Vox Luminis and Opera2Day.
In 2018, she won three prizes at the “concours international de chant lyrique de Vivonne”, including the first prize and the audience prize. In 2020, she won the audience prize at the “concours international Georges Enesco“ in Paris.
Marine is also busy as a choral conductor; she founded and conducted the semi-professional vocal ensemble Bergamasque in Paris between 2007 and 2022. She gives regular master classes in France and in the Netherlands for choral conductors, choral singers, and vocal groups, as a vocal coach and conducting instructor.
Marine holds a Master’s degree from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, where she studied singing with Sasja Hunnego and Barbara Pearson and specialized in early music with Jill Feldman, Michael Chance and Peter Kooij, as well as a Bachelor Degree from Paris Conservatory in choral conducting, where she studied with Claire Marchand.

Biographie
